On July 25 at around 3pm, a clothes rack fell from the balcony of a condominium near Soi Sukhumvit 24 in Bangkok’s Khlong Toei district and struck a motorcycle taxi carrying rider Apirat and his passenger. Dashcam footage shared by journalist Suthipongse Heart Thatphithakkul on August 10 documented the object hitting the vehicle before it crashed into two other cars, including a Toyota Corolla Cross and a Honda Accord, resulting in injuries to both riders involved.
The condo resident acknowledged responsibility for the fall and settled the matter by July 27 after agreeing to pay total compensation of 65,500 baht to all affected parties. Apirat received 40,000 baht while his passenger was awarded 10,000 baht despite social media discussions regarding helmet usage during unexpected accidents like this one.
Additional payments were made for vehicle damage: the driver of the Honda Accord received 5,000 baht and the owner of the Toyota Corolla Cross took home 10,500 baht from the settlement amount. All parties reportedly accepted the compensation and agreed to drop legal proceedings connected with this incident without further dispute or litigation.
Given that online users suggested installing barriers around balconies after the accident occurred, do you think such measures would be effective in preventing similar incidents?
